MOL Conducts Labour Inspection in Malaysia

          On May 30, 2019, at 12.30-13.00 hours, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General (Mr. Tosapol Kritawongwiman) and committee including the Social Security Office’s Inspector-General (Mr. Seela Keotabhand), the Department of Skill Development’s Inspector-General (Mr. Sa-nga Wongsapan) and the Department of Employment’s Inspector-General (Mrs. Napasorn Toongsooksai) paid a courtesy call to Mr. Haji Norizan Bin Haji Harun, Director of the Bukit Kayu Hitam immigration point, at the immigration point’s meeting room in Penang, Malaysia. The ministry’s Inspector-General thanked the immigration point’s director and team for welcoming the visit by the Thai committee and discussed the process of Thai workers entering Malaysia in the form of a Social Visit, which allows the visitor to stay in Malaysia for 30 days. After this period, the visitor must leave and come back to work again regularly. The parties also discussed Thai workers entering Malaysia straightforwardly in the form of Passport Permit.
          In the afternoon, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and committee visited the Thai workers at the Imperial Thai Massage Center (Branch 2), operated by Siam Sanctuary Sdn Bhd. There were 7 Thai workers who were trained by the Department of Skill Development, originally from the Northeast, Central and Northern regions of Thailand. Talks with the workers revealed that the employer provided accommodation and wages received every month of 2,200 Ringgit or about 17,380 Baht. The committee also spoke with 1 Thai volunteer in Penang, Mrs. Sudarat, who is in charge of helping the Ministry of Labour’s missions in Malaysian Labour Office in Penang/Consulate as well.
          The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and committee, with care for the Thai workers, asked that they work with caution and safety in life and assets. They thanked the volunteers who are critical coordinators in assisting with labour missions.
