Date:
Monday, 15 July 2019
The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Somsak Apiwantanakul and the Department of Employment’s Inspector-General Ms. Anchana Hiranpruek, the Department of Skill Developments Inspector-General Mr. Wirat Khansorn and the Social Security Office’s Inspector-General Mrs. Pidsamai Nithipaiboon, with the heads of government from the Ministry of Labour’s department visited the Port-in Port-out (PIPO) Control Center to give words of encouragement to staff and listening to a briefing on the performance of the center. The head of the PIPO center presented the report, whereby the center works closely with the Royal Thai Navy, Marine Department, Department of Fisheries, Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and Department of Employment, where the parties created the ship tracking system and past tracking system for catching fish. The systems also facilitate the examination of employment contracts and employment conditions, causing foreign fishing workers to receive labour protection. Shipowners have cooperated in compliance with the laws and regulations of the PIPO Center, and no violations appeared. As a result, IUU fishing in Thailand has been reduced to the standard accepted by foreign organizations.
