On September 19, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, and the Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Surasak Pancharoenvorakul, presided over the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in promoting employment for students during the school break. The Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, gave a report. The Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives joined to honour of the event. Executives from agencies under the Ministry of Labour, representatives from the Ministry of Education, and representatives from 22 establishments signed the agreement at the meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.
The Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, said that in line with the policy of Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, who emphasizes laying the foundation for human resource development by creating opportunities for all Thais to have the chance to work, receive appropriate protection rights and compensation to improve the quality of life for all Thais, especially students who are one of the critical labour forces to drive the economy of Thailand in the future, the Ministry of Labour has therefore signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in promoting employment for students during school breaks or gaps from studying. The MOU is signed between the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Employment, Department of Skill Development, Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Social Security Office, and the Ministry of Education’s Office of the Basic Education Commission, Office of the Vocational Education Commission, together with 22 leading establishments. It has prepared job positions nationwide to support the work of students, totaling more than 10,000 positions to equip the future workforce with knowledge and understanding of the nature of work, the needs of the labour market in terms of skills and physical fitness, including being able to use real work experiences to plan for improving their abilities and developing their skills to be appropriate and in line with the needs of the labour market after graduation, also creating income from school age to reduce the burden of family expenses.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Surasak Pancharoenvorakul, said that he was pleased to be a part of the signing ceremony of this Memorandum of Understanding and commended the Ministry of Labour for creating opportunities and supporting students who wish to work to have suitable jobs, gain real work experience, and learn about the world of careers. As for educational institutions, they will join in public relations to promote employment and set appropriate educational curricula that meet the needs of students and the labour market.
The Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, said that this signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is the intention and commitment of all sectors to create a framework of cooperation to promote and support students to have jobs, to develop working skills, provide knowledge about benefits, and protect students’ jobs in accordance with the law. The Department of Employment will provide labour market data services, recruit students who want to work, and send them to business establishments for consideration of employment. Business establishments will provide job vacancies suitable for students to the Department of Employment as information for job placement, including publicizing job recruitment through various job recruitment channels of business establishments.
Students who are looking for work can use the service at the website “thaimeengantum.doe.go.th” or the application “Thai Mee Ngan Tam”. Job seekers can search for job positions that are most suitable for them in job positions by area and place of residence, including matching job positions based on their knowledge, abilities, and skills. Employers and businesses that want to add recruitment channels can register as employers to post job positions and copy job seeker lists free of charge.
