Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul gave a speech as chair of the award ceremony for the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition Mascot Design, which took place at the Pakorn Angsusingh Conference Room on the 10th floor of the Department of Skills Development. In his speech, he congratulated and thanked all 104 participants for their submissions, which totalled 114 different designs.

In Thailand, white elephants are a symbol of the monarchy and therefore an appropriate mascot for the competition, which will enrich knowledge and skills among ASEAN participants through exchange of know-how and experience, in contribution towards human resource development to benefit the overall ASEAN economy and society.

The winning prize for the mascot design contest for the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition went to Mr. Noppakun Khunraj, who was awarded an 80,000 Baht cash prize and trophy. In addition to this, there were 4 runner-ups who were each awarded with a 5,000 Baht cash prize and certificates; these went to Mr. Rachapol Pattanatabutr, Mr. Peerwich Charoenphan, Ms. Saewtraporn Aisuriaksakul and Mr. Rungroj Saengpan.

The Department of Skills Development’s Director-General Mr. Teerapol Koonmuang added that on 24 November 2016, the Cabinet approved for the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skills Development to host the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition in 2018 which will be held from 26 August to 4 September 2018 at the Impact Arena Mueang Thong Thani. The mascot design competition was another activity to raise awareness that Thailand will host the next competition so that the general public will acknowledge this and play their part of host. The winning design will be used in public relations materials for the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition.
