45,000 Employer-Migrant Employee Relationships Already Verified

Content Description

Today (10 August 2017) Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul and the executive committee observed the employer-employee relationship verification process at Thanya Park on Srinakarin Road in Suan Luang district and the Bangkhunthian Sports Centers on Rama 2 Road, Bangkhunthian. He said, “Today is the third day of the employer-employee relationship verification process. Upon approval, employers will receive documentation for the next process which is the citizenship certification process, followed by issuance of a work permit. Over the past 2 days, a total of 45,000 relationships have been investigated with approximately 1,000 not meeting the criteria, mostly because the workers are underage. This requires medical examination results on bone mass which must be presented to the Department of Employment’s officers to confirm the workers’ age, to prevent child labour and human trafficking risks. The two sites had no problems and operated smoothly, only taking 5 minutes of interviewing with each migrant worker. I commend all who have cooperated in providing the space to establish the reporting centers and employers and workers who have come to conduct the legal processes.”
From 8-9 August 2017, results from the 2 sites are 1) A total of 747 employers and 1,834 workers who passed interviews at Thanya Park, from a total of 10,112 employers and 28,755 employees who registered (24 July to 7 August 2017) and 2) A total of 813 employers and 1,889 workers who passed interviews at the Bangkhunthian Sports Centers, from a total of 5,296 employers and 17,554 employees who registered (24 July to 7 August 2017). Each center will process the entire number of applications, leaving none behind.
