8 Federations Awarded for Implementing GLPs

                Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L Puntrik Smiti gave a speech after presenting certificates of cooperation for the Federation of Thai Industries on good labour practices (GLP) at the Jompol Pibulsongkram conference room. She said that cooperation from the private sector, particularly from the 8 industrial federations, confirmed national competitiveness showing Thailand’s leading position on the global level with regards to labour protection legislation. She added that commitment and implementation of GLPs would lead employers to be more socially responsible, but ensuring staff welfare, protection and workplace safety. As a result of this, it would add to the credibility of Thai products among foreign consumers in addition to social responsibility.
                The Permanent Secretary added that cooperation from the federations and organizations aligned with the objective, which is taking voluntary initiatives that extend beyond legal compliance leading to overall improved standards. On this occasion, the Ministry of Labour commended 8 federations for providing cooperation in using GLPs. This included the Thai Frozen Foods Association, the Thai Tuna Industry Association, the Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association, Swine Producers and Processors for Exporting Association, the Thai Shrimp Association, the Fishmeal Producers Association of Thailand, the Thai Poultry for Export Association and the Swine Raisers Association of Thailand.
                The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General Mr. Sumet Mahosot said that the GLPs were an initial guideline on improving employment and working conditions to comply with the law. In 2016 to 2017, a total of 3,523 organizations adopted GLPs, covering 74,000 workers with another 292 on the course of improving employment and working conditions. The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare will continue to promote other organizations in adopting GLPs in human resource management to continue to develop ethics and be free of exploitation.
