The minimum wage rate of house maid was set at 3,860 HK dollars in 1999, and then adjusted lower to 3,670 and 3,270 in the following 2 years respectively. Since then, the HK government adjusted to gradually increase the minimum wage to 3,320, 3,400, 3,480, and 3,580 in 2008, which has remained still until now. In 2009, the government decided to increase food price from 300 to 750 HK dollars per month; to cope with the soaring food price, the group this year begin to seek wage hike, calling for the government to increase their monthly wage to 4,000 HK dollars.
