Awareness on Anti-Human Trafficking Raised in Support of Thailand 4.0

         The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector General and spokesperson Mr. Ananchai Uthaipatanacheep revealed that Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul chaired the anti-human trafficking and illegal labour meeting for the third time this year, which took place today (8 June 2017) at the Nikom Chandravithun conference room. At the meeting, the Labour Minister referred to 5 June which is dedicated to anti-human trafficking, where the event this year was chaired by Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha at the government houses. The Labour Minister has given focus to anti-human trafficking efforts where he asked all sectors to work together to resolve the issue. He said that effective resolution would need to start at the root, creating awareness among business operators and enforcing the laws so that Thailand can follow the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA). He also added that data collected from each units would need to be accurate and timely to support the Thailand 4.0 policy.
The meeting today followed up progress on reforming human trafficking and illegal labour problems for 2017 and the action plan formed from consultation with the EU. The meeting also looked at inspection methodology for the seafood processing industry and details on managing foreign workers in 13 provinces comprising Samut Sakhon, Ranong, Pathum Thani, Chon Buri, Samut Prakarn, Surat Thani, Chiang Mai, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Rayong, Phuket, Songkhla and Tak.
