Concerned PM Assigns Labour Minister to Assist Terminated JSL Employees

Content Description

Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the progress in supporting employees of JSL who were terminated. Once the news was heard, the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, were concerned for the employees and tasked the Ministry of Labour to take care and assist the employees in receiving benefits and protection under the law. The Labour Minister has responded to that order and assigned the departments under the Ministry of Labour to inspect and expedite assistance immediately. An initial inspection by the Bangkok Labour Protection and Welfare Office Area 4 found that JSL Global Media Co., Ltd., has its head office at 154 Soi Lad Phrao 107, Lad Phrao Road, Klongchan Subdistrict, Bang Kapi District, Bangkok. There are approximately 130 employees, comprising 70 men and 60 women. The company has announced the layoff of 89 employees, who are all monthly employees, with the termination effective on July 1. The reason for the termination of employment is that the company has accumulated losses. Today, the employees gathered to file a complaint with the labour inspector following the law.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, said that today, he was assigned by the Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, to visit the area to ensure an understanding of issues regarding various benefits to the JSL employees who filed a complaint with the labour inspector at the Bangkok Labour Protection and Welfare Office Area 4. Agencies under the Ministry of Labour have sent officers to clarify and facilitate the employees, namely the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW 7). The Social Security Office explained the process of registering for unemployment benefits. The Department of Employment took job applications, providing vacancies from different establishments with businesses close to the former job titles, such as advertisers, clothing designers, marketing managers, HR managers, and drivers, totaling 72 positions. In addition, there were also job vacancies that employees could apply for on their own via the www.thaimeengartum.doe.do.th. Currently, there are 161,895 positions available. The JSL employees can choose to apply for jobs online without having to travel, which is fast and cost-effective. The Department of Skill Development recommended training courses to develop skills according to employees’ wishes so that the employees can apply for jobs and provide initial alleviation to their problems.
Tomorrow, (July 5, 2022) at 15.30 hours. JSL employees will gather to submit a letter to the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, for help following up on various employee benefits at the Ministry of Labour.
