Deputy Labour Minister Drives Skill Development Plan for People with Disabilities for Employment and Careers

          The Deputy Labour Minister continued to drive guidelines to promote skills for people with disabilities, to create jobs and professions. She emphasized that all labour groups must receive equal services from the government.
          On July 9, 2021, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat chaired the meeting of the Skill Development for Persons with Disabilities for Occupation Subcommittee No. 3/2021. Advisor to the Deputy Labour Minister M.L. Puntrik Smiti and the Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Suchart Pornchaiwisetkun also joined the meeting. The
Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Tawat Benchatikul acted as secretary. The meeting took place at the Pakorn Angsusingh Meeting Room, 10th floor, Department of Skill Development.
          Prof. Narumon said that the Skill Development for Persons with Disabilities for Occupation Subcommittee works with both public and private agencies, including organizations and associations for people with disabilities. Its efforts aim to develop skills and promote occupations and careers for people with disabilities, including caretakers, to have access to skill development. They have jointly prepared an action plan on skill development for people with disabilities to support occupation (2521-2027), which consists of 69 projects, targeting over 200,000 people under a budget of over 14 million Baht. The projects consist of 41 projects for people with disabilities, 25 projects for occupational promotion and employment for people with disabilities, and three projects to develop people with disabilities through skill competition. The projects promote vulnerable groups with cooperation from the Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and guidelines for resolving the issue regarding employing athletes with disabilities as well.
          The Deputy Labour Minister added that today’s meeting discussed the details of ways to promote the development of skills for people with disabilities, to create jobs and careers, which is a guideline for developing training courses for people with disabilities to promote employment, including certifications for professional training, The curriculum of skill development is used as a framework for short-term and medium-term training for each type of person with disabilities and to organizations with disabilities. Relevant agencies can request to use the course, to use a certificate certified by the Department of Skill Development to apply for a loan from the Fund for Promotion and Development of Quality of Life.
          In addition, the meeting also proposed to the Department of Skill Development to prepare a central course for training under Section 35 of the Persons with Disabilities Empowerment Act B.E 2550, and the establishment of businesses, clubs, or organizations with disabilities to bring the central curriculum to provide training for each category of disabled persons under Section 35, including the transfer of qualifications, professional skills assessments or continued working.
          “We thank all network partners who have joined together to mobilize their ideas, strength, and spirit to help drive the way of working for the people with disabilities. This is another group that has potential and is an important force in driving the country’s economy. Together, we will overcome this crisis,” concluded the Deputy Labour Minister.
