Between 6-8 September 2010, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MOL (Mrs.Jiraporn Kesornsujarit) and the group comprising of 13 chief labour officers and director of the Bureau under supervision of the Office of Permanent Secretary went to Taipei, Taiwan in order to monitor Thai labour situation and the performance of Thailand Trade and Economic Office in Kaohsiung and Thailand Trade and Economic Trade Office in Taipei. She, herewith, discussed about the problem of traveling expenses for going to work in Taiwan and monitored the progress of opening Taiwan direct employment service for foreign workers. She also visited the center and discussed with Deputy Director-General of the Vocational Training Center, Council of Labour Affairs (CLA) over the future academic coordination.
According to summary of a result of the center’s implementation, if was found that there were few employees use the direct employment service because an initial implementation of the center is only to promote direct employment of foreign housekeeper or caretaker, and it has directly employed the same workers, mostly are Indonesian. However, the Center will open direct employment service for foreign workers in the other fields such as construction and manufacturing industry in 2011, hence, the direct employment of Thai workers would be increased. In this way, databases of the center and those of MOL shall be linked together in order for the employer to select the employer via electronic system.
In addition, the group visited and discussed with the director (Mr. Viboon Kusakul) of Thailand Trade and Economic Office. The issue of discussion is promoting Thai workers not to lush since it is not good for their health and their working performance as well as it conduces to other problems. This campaign will be conducted through media such as Taiwan radio (Thai language section), public information, talks with Thai workers and distributing documents. In this regard, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MOL expressed thankfulness to Director of Thailand Trade and Economic Office for their good support and facilitation
Before departure, the group also met for discussion with Mr. Ruei –Hua Chung, Vice President of COMPEQ. This company employs 171 Thai workers, in which all of them paid only 28,000 baht for travelling to Taiwan. In addition, the company takes responsible for monthly expenses and service fee of the workers including ticket fee. After that, they also visited and talked with Thai workers working in the company.
