The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and spokesperson Mr. Ananchai Uthaipatanacheep gave a speech after the Ministry of Labour’s sixth meeting of the year, explain that Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul had chaired the meeting which gave consideration to the development of e-services by the National Labour Information Center (NILC). The e-serves allow the general public to access services via the nlic.mol.go.th website, allowing them to submit job applications, search vacancies, source people and obtain details about the ministry’s services. This include training in various courses and data on geography, graphs, unemployment statistics and labour claims.
The Labour Minister assigned the Department of Employment to find ways to motivate the workforce into the fishing industry using 2 measures; in the short term a standardized contract will be drafted to increase wages in the fishing industry to 12,000 Baht a month. Employment conditions and welfare will also be improved to include accommodation and meals, taking responsibility of medical expenses by providing health and accident insurance. The wage committee will also consider increasing daily wages to 400 Baht in the short run. As for the long term, the Ministry of Labour plans to import migrant workers through MOUs with the Cambodian and Burmese government; the Department of Employment will start with discussion with Cambodia towards the end of June, then in mid-July, it will consult with Myanmar.
