Employers Urged to Register Migrant Workers with Only 3 Days Left

           The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and spokesperson Mr. Ananchai Uthaipatanacheep have a press briefing on progress by the reporting centers for foreign worker management. He said that Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti was concerned about the employment of migrant workers nationwide, as the centers will only be open for another 3 days until 7 August. She urged employers to process their undocumented migrant workers, explaining that the process will only take 15 minutes, reiterating that the centers will be open every day for registration; on 8 August and onwards, the process of verifying employer-employee relationships will commence. The Permanent Secretary affirmed that this was the last opportunity and grace period for employers and workers. As for the citizenship verification centers for Cambodian workers, centers in Bangkok, Rayong and Songkhla will open at the end of the month.

The latest statistic as of today at 10.00 showed a total of 133,304 employer applications totaling 463,996 migrant workers; this comprised 266,476 Burmese workers, 135,542 Cambodian workers and 61,978 Laotian workers. Provinces with the highest number of applications included Bangkok, Chon Buri, Samut Prakarn, Rayong and Pathum Thani respectively.
