Former Employees of Brilliant Co., Ltd., Show Gratitude to PM for Increasing Employee Welfare Fund Payments to a Maximum of 100 Times of the Minimum Wage Rate

          Former employees of Brilliant Co., Ltd. thanked the Prime Minister for responding to the request for the Employee Welfare Fund Committee to consider increasing the rate of benefits paid from the original maximum to 100 times of the minimum wage rate, to have a retroactive effect from March 1, 2020. The process for publication in the Government Gazette will be accelerated, and it is expected to come into effect before the new year.
          Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong spoke about the case of the Triumph International Workers’ Union of Thailand comprising 30 representatives of Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Co., Ltd., who visited the Ministry of Labour on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 10:00 hours, to follow up on the decision of the Employee Welfare Fund Committee to assist employees of Brilliant Co., Ltd. The employees requested to amend the regulations of the Employee Welfare Fund to increase the rate of payment from the fund. The matter was submitted to the Prime Minister by representatives of the employees. Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin was assigned to carry out the orders of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayut Chan-ocha, who gives importance and is concerned about employees who have suffered from employment termination and are treated unfairly in terms of benefits. He emphasized that the Ministry of Labour takes care of workers to provide fair assistance. Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who supervises the Ministry of Labour, ordered to improve the regulations to increase the rate of welfare payments following the current situation and as appropriate. Today, the Employee Welfare Fund Committee held a meeting of the Board of Directors No. 15/2021. The Board of Directors resolved to approve the amendment of the Employee Welfare Fund Committee regulations to increase the rate of welfare payments from the original maximum to 100 times the minimum wage rate, both in the case of compensation and in cases other than compensation. The employee representatives of Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Co., Ltd. expressed their gratitude and thanked the Prime Minister for caring and responding to their requests. The proposals of this group of employees have resulted in employees who have been affected by similar conditions receiving additional benefits.
          Mr. Boonchob added that amendments to the Employee Welfare Fund Committee’s regulations would increase the benefit payment rate to be higher from the original maximum to 100 times the minimum wage rate in both cases as follows: In the case of compensation from 30 times to 60 times the minimum daily wage rate for employees who have worked for 120 consecutive years days but less than three years, from 50 times to 80 times of the minimum daily wage rate for employees who have worked for three consecutive years but less than ten years and from 70 times to 100 times of the minimum daily wage rate for employees who have worked continuously for ten years or more. In cases other than severance pay, from the original 60 times to 100 times the minimum daily wage rate, retrospective effect from March 1, 2020, to February 28, 2022. It is expected to pay 59 million Baht for 5,270 employees. The committee assigned the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to present the draft regulations to the Chairman and the Office of the Secretariat of the Cabinet to publish in the Government Gazette as soon as possible. It is expected to come into effect before the new year.
