General Sirichai Joins ASEAN Labour Minister’s Meeting

Content Description

The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General and spokesperson Mr. Ananchai Uthaipatanacheep revealed that Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul and committee traveled to the ASEAN Labour Minister’s Meeting (ALMM) and joined the World Congress on Safety and Health at Work today (2 September 2017) in Singapore, on invitation by the Singaporean Ministry of Manpower. The meeting will commence on 3 September 2017 where ASEAN labour ministers will each issue statements and sign intent on improving safety and health towards sustainable economic growth.

Mr. Ananchai explained that the ALMM’s agenda aimed to gather labour ministers from member nations to show intent and uphold importance of safety and health to strengthen operations to meet international standards, and to improve the regions reputation. The meeting also celebrated the 50-year anniversary of the ASEAN union.

The issue of statements and sign of intent of the ASEAN labour ministers will benefit Thailand as it aligned with the basic management principles on international safety and health, and also corresponds with the ASEAN-OSHNET’s mission. This in turn is parallel with the national agenda’s second phase on a “safe and healthy workforce” and the second version of the master plan on occupational safety, health and environment (2017-2021). The declaration shows importance given to occupational safety which aligned with the ILO Convention 187 on the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health, 2006, which Thailand ratified on 23 March 2016.
