Content Description

The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, and the delegation traveled to meet Thai workers on their official visit to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to attend the 8th World Government Summit. They visited the first Thai restaurant, Benjarong, in Dubai. It is one of the famous Thai restaurants in Dubai and is enjoyed by foreigners in the United Arab Emirates. They met and encouraged 6 Thai workers working as Thai Chefs. The second destination was the White Orchid Restaurant & Lounge. This restaurant employs skilled Thai workers and offers high wage rates in Dubai. Three Thai chefs work as Chef de Cuisine, Jr. Sous Chef, and Demi Chef positions. The third destination was CALM Spa & Salon, which employs Thai Spa Therapists in Dubai. This place employs skilled Thai workers and offers high wage rates. Four Thai workers work as Spa Managers, Spa therapists, and Spa Supervisors/Trainers.
Mr. Suchart said that the Thai government and the Ministry of Labour care about all Thai workers, even if they are working abroad. Thai workers working abroad are considered important as each year, the income earned is returned to their families in Thailand. The income further drives the country’s economy. Employers recognize Thai workers for their skills which are unique and distinctive. It is difficult for workers of nationalities to imitate, especially the charm in their work and skills in Thai massage and spa and Thai cooks and chefs. Today, he met Thai workers and business owners and observed customers of Thai people’s establishments, which will earn the business profit. Employees will receive wages, salaries, and tips from their work. From discussions with business operators, most still need Thai workers as Thai workers have good skills, are diligent, and are responsible. “This trip to visit Thai workers in the United Arab Emirates allows us to meet and talk to business owners. Today, I am glad to meet Thai business owners and workers who traveled to work abroad. I asked about their wellbeing and shared encouragement and care from Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who assigned us to meet and speak to everyone in person,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
After the Labour Minister met with the UAE Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation in December 2021, 519 Thai workers traveled to the UAE for work, mostly as massage and spas therapists, chefs, cooks, receptionists, and technicians in various fields. Most of them come to travel for work through direct employment. There are 43 workers who have not yet traveled, working as spa therapists and restaurant employees. The job opportunities have been publicized through various online channels to expand the Thai skilled labour market in the United Arab Emirates. The effort will bring in income and experiences back to develop the country further.
