On Sunday the 1st May 2016 at The Regal Kowloon Hotel in Hong Kong, the Labour Office arranged the National Labour Day 2016, returning happiness to the Thai workers. Deputy Minister Counsellor of Hong Kong (Ms. Marinee Suwanmolee) chaired the event, which was attended by the Minister Counsellor of Myanmar in Macau, Minister Counsellor on labour from the Philippines and Indonesia, executives from the Department of Labour in Hong Kong, the Kowloon City police, Freyssinet executives, employers including executives from recruitment companies in Hong Kong and local social organizations.

This year was the first year that the Hong Kong Labour Office honoured the Thai workforce, whereby arranging the Smart Worker pageant to showcase the abilities of the workforce in Hong Kong and Macau, which comprises numerous professions including housemaids, engineers, Thai boxing coaches, spa therapists, massage experts and beauty experts. Furthermore, sports competitions also took place in the event including football, volleyball and sepak takraw. The event also hosted activities for public benefit; this year the activity was developing the religious shrine at the Thai temple in Hong Kong (Wat Mekthamwanaram). This year’s event was well received by Thai workers, Thai residents and Hong Kong nationals with over 1,000 participants.
