Informal Workers Provided Better Protection and Benefits

         On 9 May 2017 at 14.30, Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L. Puntrik Smiti welcomed Mrs. Sujin Rungsawang, director of the national informal worker coordination center and committee, who thanked the ministry on improving social security benefits for informal workers under Section 40. The meeting took place at the Permanent Secretary’s lounge at the Ministry of Labour. The meeting also hosted a consultation on 5 issues concerning informal worker’s rights. This included the monitoring of labour volunteers in Bangkok and the revision of 2 benefits under Section 40 concerning the death of lower-income groups per government policy. The third was the establishment of a subcommittee and government’s promotion center under the Bangkok informal worker strategy, followed by protective legislation for the 22 million informal workers and lastly on working together under MOU in alignment with the provincial informal worker management plans.
