Labour Advisory Visits Ko Samui to Advocate Section 40 Awareness Among Informal Workers

             The Labour Ministers advisor Ms. Anusaree Tubsuwan visited Ko Samui to take proactive measures to create awareness at the local level and campaign for informal and freelance workers to apply for Social Security Section 40 to drive the “One Tambon, One Village, Universal Social Security” to cover freelance workers for equality in society and improve the quality of life.

 

            Today (November 24, 2018), Prime Minister’s Secretariat to the Ministry of Labour Ms. Anusaree Tubsuwan (advisor to the Labour Minister) together with Assistant Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Theerat Nawamawat visited Laem market area, Bophut, Ko Samui, Surat Thani, to take measures to proactively promote and create awareness among informal and freelance workers to apply as an insurer under Section 40 in the social security system, to be protected, secured and have a better quality of life.

 



            Ms. Anusaree said that the government has given importance to social security coverage to suit people of all genders and ages, especially caring for freelance workers to promote a better quality of life, stability and security, Labour Minister, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo formed policies focused and urgent on creating awareness among informal and freelance workers to voluntarily register for social security. This initiative is a driving force of the “One Tambon, One Village, Universal Social Security” policy, which is an important project to drive the 13 Agenda Based policies of the Ministry of Labour with the Social Security Office as host in integrating all sectors, such as media and social security networks at the regional level working together to campaign, advocate, support and push for informal workers who are self-employed aged between 15 and 60 years to apply for insurance under Section 40, as security for the future.

 

 

 

            Ko Samui is the third largest island in Thailand and consists of 7 subdistricts and 39 villages. From the Surat Thani Social Security Offices’ statistics, it cares for 6,745 organizations and 187,027 insurers consisting of 129,085 under Section 33, 15,184 under Section 39 and 42,758 under Section 40. The implementation of the “One Tambon, One Village, Universal Social Security” policy, was supported by the Ministry of Labour’s local agencies in Surat Thani, networks, volunteers, local leaders and various government agencies, working together to implement the “One Tambon, One Village, Universal Social Security” policy towards stability, prosperity and sustainability, in line with government policy.
