The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Soothi Sukosol revealed results from the Ministry of Labour’s survey on labour demands from October 2016 to April 2017. Results found that requests sent by employers/organizations for labour demand totaled 219,896 people, averaging 31,414 people per month, peaking in March 2017 with demand reaching 37,491. Categorization into educational levels found the demand highest for vocational graduates with 82,022 people, followed by a demand for 71,759 high school workers, 36,476 workers with qualifications below that and 29,639 workers with a minimum of Bachelor’s degree.
Mr. Soothi said that the statistics showed that the demand was currently highest for vocational graduates, and therefore encouraged high school students to view vocational education as another option for study, allowing for study and work together enabling a source of income whilst studying. He added that in pursuing a vocational degree, graduates would be able to gain employment as demand is still high in Thailand and abroad. Mr. Soothi said that wages could be increased to a highest of 815 Baht per day by passing standard skills assessments provided by the Department of Skills Development. Overall, the ministry’s Inspector-General gave full support to vocational education in the drive towards a Thailand 4.0.
