Labour Minister Accelerates “One Tambon, One Independent Occupation Group” to Increase the Potential of Independent Workers Nationwide

Content Description

The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, revealed that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has accelerated the implementation of the “One Tambon, One Independent Occupation Group” policy to see results quickly. He has assigned a working group to drive the development of self-employment potential, with himself as the chairman. The group visited Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani provinces with the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Lieutenant Saroj Komkhai, and officials to collect data and study the feasibility of the project. They met with four groups of independent workers, consisting of a group of beekeepers in Chang Klang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, the Meng Fish Processing Group, in Ban Na Derm District, the Weaving Group, in Vibhavadi District, and the Coconut Products Processing Group, in Mueang District, Surat Thani Province. The results of the visit will ensure that the Labour Minister’s policies will be able to be implemented.

The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson said that the Labour Minister would like the working group to find a group of self-employed people who are strong already with a clear product or service but lack promotion, support, and expansion comprehensively. The emphasis is placed on developing knowledge such as quality production processes and packaging development to raise the level of ordinary products to premium products or services and become a local soft power. Then, they can promote sales and connect the products to the domestic market in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Commerce, and agencies of the Ministry of Labour that are spread out in every area, including foreign markets where labour offices are based. This will be a connection point to markets in various regions. The working group will present operational guidelines to the Labour Minister at the ministry’s executive meeting in early June.

“From next month onwards, we will begin to see outputs of the “One Tambon, One Independent Occupation Group” clearer. He said that once the Labour Minister has been informed of the guidelines that the working group will present, he will issue orders for the various agencies to work together and push for further success. The goal is to provide independent workers with a better quality of life and have income to take care of themselves and their families well,” said Mr. Phumiphat.
