On May 26, 2022, at 13.00 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, to preside over the opening ceremony of the workshop under the project to strengthen the informal workers association for the third class and to award employers of home workers in the activity to recruit and select outstanding informal worker networks for 2022. The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Deputy Director-General, Mr. Decha Pruekphathanarak, and heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Phetchaburi Province participated in this occasion at the Golden Windmill Sea Salt Occupational Group Community Enterprise, Ban Laem District, Phetchaburi Province.
Mrs. Thiwalrat said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, and Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, has given importance to informal workers who are considered the largest workforce in the country. Informal workers play an important role in driving the economy to have the ability to compete with other countries. The Ministry of Labour has set the direction of operations for informal workers, working networks, and the people to be protected, and to promote development, to have access to the government’s goods and services under the vision that “workers have a good quality of life, receive fairness, inclusiveness, and sustainability.” It fosters network partners from all sectors to participate in the development of valuable work to be a mechanism in driving the Ministry of Labour and the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s missions at the local level and to participate in the development of valuable work have access to social rights and services as well as being thoroughly protected.
The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Deputy Director-General, Mr. Decha Pruekphathanarak, added that the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Labour Protection and Welfare hopes that informal worker associations in the region have knowledge and understanding of the policy and direction of informal worker’s management by the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare. The workers are a key cog that drives parallel space-level mechanisms in the same direction. It aims to promote informal worker associations to have the potential and knowledge in the systematic management of the association, to understand their rights and duties under labour protection and work safety laws to build stability, sustainability, and good quality of life. This workshop was attended by members of the Golden Windmill Sea Salt Occupational Group Community Enterprise and informal worker networks in the area. In addition, the event hosted an award ceremony for the selection of outstanding informal workers and networks for 2022 to demonstrate commitment and determination in labour operations for workers outside the system whose work is evident to society.
