Labour Minister Assigns Assistant Dr. Duangrit to Coordinate and Care for Employees and Insurers Injured and Deceased from the Shootings in Korat

         The event on February 8, 2020, where the perpetrator used firearms in a shooting at the center of Korat and Terminal 21, Korat, resulted in a number of employees and insurers being injured, including some deaths. Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul assigned Assistant to the Labour Minister Mr. Duangrit Benjathukul Chairungrueng to the area. The Social Security Office’s Secretariat Mr. Tosapol Kritawongwiman assigned the Social Security Office’s Deputy Secretary-General Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud to attend the area to look after the insured employees affected by the disaster.

         In this regard, Mr. Duangrit revealed that he had visited the area to expedite the payment of benefits from the Compensation Fund and Social Security Fund, to those who suffered from this incident. He said that he felt sad and sympathetic to all those affected by this event.

         In the initial stage, the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office has examined the data of the insured employees and found that there are 6 deaths that are insured employees as follows:
    – Two employee deaths due to working which are:
         1. Mr. Amnat Bunkua, a citizen of Nakhon Ratchasima, employee of Porsche Security Guard Co., Ltd., in the position of a security officer at Terminal Department Store. He died at work. The family received a funeral fee of 33,600 Baht, 70 percent compensation of the monthly wage paid to the family for 10 years in the amount of 709,800 Baht, and a pension of 119,858 Baht. The relatives will arrange the funeral at Ban Nong Bua Temple, Ban Pho, Muang, Nakhon Ratchasima.

        2. Mr. Wanchai Wetchawan, a citizen of Buriram province, an employee of Clean Square The Mall Co., Ltd., in the position of a car cleaning equipment salesperson. He died at work. The family received a funeral fee of 33,600 Baht, 70 percent compensation of the monthly wage paid to the family for 10 years in the amount of 954,744 Baht, and a pension of 43,956 Baht. The relatives will arrange the funeral at Ban Bu Khilek Mai Phatthana Temple, Salaengphan, Lam Plai Mat, Buriram.

    – Four deaths that were not related to the insurer’s work were:

         1. Mrs. Narisa Chotiklang, a citizen of Nakhon Ratchasima, an insurer under Section 33, position, a pharmacist at P. Phat Hospital. The family received compensation for funeral expenses of 40,000 Baht, a pension of 206,434 Baht, and compensation for death in the amount of 90,000 Baht. The relatives will arrange the funeral at Nong Phai Temple, Pho Klang, Mueang, Nakhon Ratchasima.

         2. Mr. Watcharapol Panich, a citizen of Nakhon Ratchasima, an insurer under Section 33, a government official at the Forest Resources Management Office 8, Nakhon Ratchasima, Department of Forestry. The family received compensation for funeral expenses of 40,000 Baht, a pension of 121,382 Baht, and compensation for death in the amount of 90,000 Baht. The relatives will arrange the funeral at Sakae Temple, Mueang, Nakhon Ratchasima.

         3. Mr. Chakkraphan Seephimai, a citizen of Nakhon Ratchasima, an insurer under Section 33, an employee at Ratchasima Shopping Complex Co., Ltd. The family received compensation for funeral expenses of 40,000 Baht, a pension of 103,668.70 Baht, and compensation for death in the amount of 77,166 Baht. The relatives will arrange the funeral at Sra Bua Luan Temple, Mueang, Nakhon Ratchasima.

         4. Mrs. Chayapha Saengkhonburi, an insurer under Section 40. The family received compensation for funeral expenses of 40,000 Baht and a pension of 2,255 Baht. The relatives will arrange the funeral at Nong Phai Temple, Pho Klang, Mueang, Nakhon Ratchasima.

         As for the injured persons from the incident as insurers under Section 33, a total of 10 people has been treated for minor injuries and have returned home, consisting of 4 people, which are:

  1. Mr. Plearn Taejohor
  2. Mr. Thapanat Phenchan
  3. Mr. Boon Lokkananit
  4. Ms. Athitaya Sornsit

 Six patients received medical treatment for serious injuries. Five patients are in bed resting treatment at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, including:

  1. Mr. Thaweesak Sukharom
  2. Mr. Suradech Nueng-udai
  3. Mr. Uthai Khanossa
  4. Ms. Pattharaphon Panyasathian
  5. Mr. Chirattikan Nobthai

One patient is at rest at Ratchasima Hospital, which is Ms. Sompong Dokdurian.

         Today, he brought the concerns of Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul to all those affected by this incident and extended his condolences. He confirmed that the Ministry of Labour under the Social Security Office’s mission will expedite the inspection and provide rapid assistance to all affected people, concluded Mr. Duangrit.
