Labour Minister Assigns Inspector-General to Deliver Food Boxes and Goods to Workers in Viphavadi 20 Camp Site

          On July 9, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, to visit the area to deliver food and consumables to workers in the construction camp of Duangwan Building Co., Ltd. at Soi Inthamara 1, in front of Laplae Community. The visit donated 200 food boxes from the Safety at Work Promotion Association to construction camp workers at Soi Vibhavadi 20, led by the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Mr. Wannarat Srisuksai. The Safety at Work Promotion Association team also joined the occasion. Ms. Bubpha said that according to the media, the news talks about the excruciating lives of camp workers sleeping in tents with hot conditions and rain, lacking money and food. The media referred to a campsite around Soi Vibhavadi 20. In this regard, the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha has sent his concern to all the workers in the construction camp. The Ministry of Labour has remedial measures to help employees in worker camps following the CCSA’s resolution to close the construction worker’s camps to restrict traveling and movement of workers in the six dark red provinces, namely Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, and Nakhon Pathom, for one month. The measure aims to control the spread of Covid-19 in the worker camp clusters by paying 50 percent of their wages for one month. The employers are requested to cooperate by providing the workers with all three meals. The Ministry of Labour will support consumer goods such as rice, drinking water, eggs, and canned fish, donated by the private sector, and donated to the Thai Contractors Association under H.M. The King’s Patronage at the center of food distribution to camp workers, whereby the employer takes care of three meals for employees.
          Ms. Bubpha said that Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin is concerned about the workforce. Therefore, today, she was assigned to visit Soi Inthamara 1 in front of Laplae Community and at Soi Vibhavadi 20 to donate 200 food boxes from the Safety at Work Promotion Association. They also donated dry foods, consumables, and necessary items for workers such as rice, drinking water, chicken eggs, canned fish, and instant noodles. This food delivery is a supplementary measure where the Ministry of Labour asks employers to provide three meals to the workers. The Ministry of Labour will support consumer goods donated from the private sector to help alleviate workers’ suffering and food expenses.
