Labour Minister Assigns Pol. Maj. Gen. Nantachat to Tak to Inspect Establishments with Foreign Workers

          On February 8, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Assistant Minister from the Prime Minister’s Office performing duties for the Ministry of Labour Police Major General Nantachat Supamongkol and the 1st Special Task Force together with the Tak Provincial Employment Office to visit business establishments to advise on the implementation of preventive measures against COVID-19 at construction sites and sewing factories. The occasion took place in Mae Sot District, Tak Province.

          Police Major General Nantachat revealed that the Labour Minister gives importance to managing the work of foreigners working in Thailand, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, he was assigned to join the 1st Special Task Force, working with the Tak Provincial Employment Office to monitor and ensure that establishments use legal foreign workers and advise public health measures to employers and migrant workers. The effort aims to create awareness and prevent outbreaks in the workplace. From the inspection of seven establishments and 90 foreign workers, there were 26 foreigners guilty of working without a work permit and in offense of foreigners entering and staying in the Kingdom without permission. Four employers were found in wrongdoing based on accepting foreigners to work without work permits and sheltering unpermitted foreigners entering and staying in the Kingdom.

          Police Major General Nantachat asked employers and foreign workers to strictly comply with measures to control and prevent COVID-19 from reducing the spread as prescribed by the government. He also emphasized employers and foreign workers work following the law. If an employer or organization with foreign workers is found without a work permit, the Department will investigate, arrest and prosecute without exception. For employers who accept foreigners to work without work permits, there will be a fine from 10,000 to 100,000 Baht per foreigner. Repeated offenses are punishable by imprisonment, and the employer will be prohibited from hiring foreigners to work for another three years. Foreigners who enter to work without permission are punishable by fines ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 Baht. They will be repatriated out of the Kingdom and unable to obtain a work permit until the sentence has been released for two years.
