On December 14, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Suthep Chitvong, to preside over the opening ceremony of the Skill Expo Thailand 2022 project, developing people into the new world. The Department of Skill Development organized the event with the concept of “Building, Strengthening, and Adding Value.” The Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, the Deputy Governor of Chonburi Province, Mr. Naris Niramaiwong, the Ministry of Labour’s executives, heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Education in Chonburi Province, the Director of the Eastern College of Technology (E.Tech.) and students, gave a welcome at the Eastern College of Technology (E.Tech.), Chonburi Province.
Mr. Suthep said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defence General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, emphasizes and gives importance to laying a foundation for stability in human resource development to drive the economy with innovation to Thailand 4.0. The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchat Chomklin, has assigned the Department of Skill Development to accelerate the policy to upgrade skilled workers into productive labour, enhance the potential of skills to incorporate creativity, and drive the economy with technology and innovation. This is in line with the 20-year National Strategic Plan and the 13th National Economic and Social Development Plan to develop the potential of Thai workers to be prepared for changing situations and support the new economy after the COVID-19 situation. It aims to enhance competitiveness and align with the country’s development direction for Thailand to be stable, prosperous, and sustainable, becoming a developed country through development with the sufficiency economy philosophy.
Mr. Suthep continued that the Skill Expo Thailand 2022 aims to develop people in the new world. This event was organized as an open space to exchange knowledge, innovation, and technology for the future. It aims to stimulate the growth of establishments or related business sectors to positively affect the overall economy of the country, region, province, and community. It supports the transition to future industries and services that create high-added value, increase the efficiency of Thai workers, and upgrade the quality and standard of Thai products and services in line with market demands and changes in the global value chain.
The Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, said that the event was organized by the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development, held between December 14 – 17, 2022 at the Eastern College of Technology (E.Tech.), Chonburi Province. The activities within the event include demonstrations of skill competitions in 10 branches, including modeling for 3D games, building information modeling, computer mechanical drawing, cyber security, industrial automation technology, mission-based robot design, mechatronics, mobile robot technology, optical fiber network inspection, and virtual welding. There were demonstrations of training on automation and robotics in 6 branches, including mechatronics, robot arm, PLC programming, computer mechanical drawing, artificial intelligence, and industrial robot maintenance. There were demonstrations on standardized assessments for five branches in the future in the 21st century, including electric vehicle maintenance technicians at the level 2 capacity, mig-max welding system supervisor branch with robots at the level 1 capacity, smart home system installer branch at the level 1 capacity, the solar system installer at the level 1 capacity, and bartender at the level 2 capacity. There is also showcasing the virtual world through AR or VR in professions, including surgeons, bartenders, electricians, automotive maintenance technicians, vehicle disassembly staff, and factory operators. There will also be a showcase on IoT technology transfer for smart agriculture, a country development exhibition based on the BCG concept, and an exhibition of products from entrepreneurs. The event will be held four more times after this in Khon Kaen, Songkhla, Chiang Mai, and Bangkok, respectively.
