The group’s president, Ms. Pathomporn Panlakpol, and group members, including heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Nakhon Phanom Province, gave a welcome at the handicraft group by the Association of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, Nakhon Phanom Province.

Mrs. Thienrat said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, sees the importance of equality and social security for vulnerable groups. People with disabilities are one of the main groups that must be taken care of thoroughly. Therefore, she was assigned to visit the area to meet and encourage the handicraft group by the Association of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities in Nakhon Phanom Province, which was first established in 2008 under the name Association of Parents with Intellectual Disabilities in Nakhon Phanom Province. Later, it was registered as an Association of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities in Nakhon Phanom Province in 2019 to create jobs and careers for families with disabilities. It provides support by hiring people with disabilities under Section 33 so that people with disabilities can work in public places. It also promotes occupations in agriculture, being registered as a community enterprise, including the promotion of handicraft occupations such as making Thai clay flowers, doormats, banana leaf rolling, and Kalamae making. The group was registered as homeworkers. The public can follow the news of the group’s movement via the Facebook page, “Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities in Nakhon Phanom Province.”

Mrs. Thienrat added that the group had helped many people with disabilities, including support in the form of prosthetic equipment such as wheelchairs, patient beds, and toilet chairs, requesting a career fund from the Council on Social Welfare of Thailand under Royal Patronage to support 130 families, and requesting funds to repair housing for the disabled not exceeding 75,000 Baht per household for 32 families. It also supported welfare funds of 3,000 – 5,000 Baht per person for 32 families from the Social Welfare Council in collaboration with Nakhon Phanom University on organic agriculture and media to stimulate the development of children with intellectual disabilities. It is also a social security network coordinator in Nakhon Phanom Province, working with agencies under the Ministry of Labour in the province.
