Labour Minister Commences Social Security Symposium on “Modernizing SSO Through Modern Services and Sustainable Social Security”

          On October 7, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, presided over the Social Security Symposium 2022 under the topic “Modernizing SSO Through Modern Services and Sustainable Social Security.” The event also awarded a plaque for excellent services from the customer satisfaction survey project with the Social Security Office for 2022. The Ministry of Labour’s senior executives, executives, and officials from the Social Security Offices in the central and provincial regions, the Social Security Committee and Subcommittee, representatives from relevant agencies, employer representatives, representatives of employees, insured persons, academics, and media welcomed them at the Impact Forum Building, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi Province.
          Mr. Suchart said that the government under Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, has given importance to the revival of the country’s economy after the wide impact of COVID-19 pandemic. The Social Security Office has complied with the government’s urgent policy to alleviate the suffering of employers and insured persons in the social security system. They have implemented flexible policies by reducing contribution rates, payment of contributions via electronic channels, improvements in unemployment benefits, and benefits and medical services in case of COVID-19. Today, the 2022 Social Security Symposium on “Modernizing SSO Through Modern Services and Sustainable Social Security” is a platform for knowledge from qualified speakers who will give special lectures from various perspectives, which are useful and applicable to the post-COVID world. The lectures will be shared with representatives from the public and private sectors, including representatives from relevant agencies, insured persons, executives from the Social Security Office, and relevant officials, joining in exchanging views. Participants will learn together and be enabled to apply the knowledge, concepts, and experiences to life and work. In addition, all comments will guide the Social Security Office on potential developments in services and benefits to create a good quality of life for insured persons to maximize benefits.
          The Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, said that about 450 people attended the meeting, including executives from the Ministry of Labour, civil servants and staff of the Social Security Office from both central and regional areas, including the Social Security Office’s Committee and Subcommittee, the Employers’ Confederation of Thailand, the Employee Organization Council, representatives from relevant agencies, academics, the media, and the general public. The meeting was divided into two parts. In the morning, there was a special lecture on “Economic and Social Changes after COVID-19” by Mr. Danucha Pitchayanan, Secretary-General of the Office of the National Economic and Social Development, followed by “Changes in the Principles of Health Insurance for Thai People After COVID-19” by Dr. Jadet Thammathatchaaree, Secretary-General of the National Health Security Office.
          In the afternoon, there was a keynote address on the “New Era Public Service” by Mr. Pinsai Surasawadi, Advisor on Strategic Tax Collection from the Revenue Department, followed by “Modern Private Sector Services” by Mr. Phayong Srivanich, President Krung Thai Bank. The session ended with a discussion on “Modernizing Services: Challenge and Transformation” by representatives from the Social Security Office, the Government Pension Fund (GPF), Dhipaya Insurance Public Company Limited, and representatives from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority. They also spoke about guidelines to continue in the future and information on the challenges of the COVID-19 situation, leading to the development of services and sustainable benefits for building trust with insured persons.
