On December 1, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, welcomed members of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority State Enterprise Workers Union (BMTA), led by Mr. Sompong Sawasdeepap and his team. About 30 people came to submit a letter to the Labour Minister asking for help in cases where the employer did not pay wages to certain union members as they were deemed as interfering with union operations. The Ministry of Labour’s executives also attended the occasion at the Chatumongkol Room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labour.
Mr. Suchart said that members of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority State Enterprise Workers Union submitted a letter asking for support with the above issue, asking for help to verify whether the employer’s actions were valid. He said that the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, give importance to the suffering of all worker groups. The Ministry of Labour was instructed to conduct fact-finding to ensure that employees are entitled to legal protection. Initially, the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Labour Protection and Welfare clarified the issue and found ways to support it, including negotiating with the employer to use good labour relations principles to reach a resolution as soon as possible.
