On June 21, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, paid a visit to give encouragement and advice to 241 Thai workers receiving training before traveling to work in Taiwan and Japan. The Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Siraphop Duangsodsri, the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat’s Office, performing duties for the Ministry of Labour, Mr. Phuchong Worasri, and the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Ms. Bunyawee Khaipan joined in the visit to give encouragement. The Department of Employment’s Deputy Director-General, Mr. Mongkol Songkhram, gave a report. The Ministry of Labour’s executives and trainees attended the ceremony in the meeting room on the 5th floor of the Ministry of Labour.

The Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, said that many Thai people like to travel abroad to work as the compensation is higher compared to Thailand. If workers are patient and determined to work, when the employment contract is completed, they will have income, savings, and experience working abroad, which will improve their quality of life. Before traveling to work abroad, there must be training to prepare and equip Thai workers with the knowledge and understanding of the conditions under the employment contract, employment conditions, customs, cultures, and traditions, as well as the channels for requesting help. The training helps workers understand their benefits and entitlements to protection according to law. Today, there were 241 Thai workers receiving training in preparation to travel to work, comprising 237 people to Taiwan as metal parts production employees and 4 to Japan as semi-skilled technicians in ready-to-eat food production positions. All workers were deployed via an employment agency.
Mr. Phiphat said that he gives importance to Thai workers who travel abroad as they are a source of income in Thailand. Every time the Department of Employment trains workers before traveling abroad, if he is available, he will always pay a visit and give encouragement and advice. On this day, the focus is on all Thai workers working hard and taking the best responsibility for the work assigned to them. He asked that the workers not get involved with drugs, intoxicants, and gambling of any kind so that they can save money for when their employment contract is completed. He said that the important thing is to gather practical knowledge and work experience to return to develop themselves in their hometown and further develop the Thai economy.

The Department of Employment’s Deputy Director-General, Mr. Mongkol Songkhram, said that at present, Thai workers are working in 139 countries globally. The top five countries where Thai people go to work the most are Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Israel, and Malaysia, respectively. In the 2024 fiscal year, 67,208 job seekers have been sent to work abroad. The estimated income only for the 2024 fiscal year from Thai workers abroad sent to Thailand through the Bank of Thailand’s system is 181,492 million Baht. Efforts are underway to continue to expand the labour market abroad, including in Japan, in food and beverage work, and public relations services. There are negotiations in place to increase the proportion of female receptionist employment in hotels. Israel has increased the agricultural employment quota from 6,000 people per year to 20,000 people. Thai workers who have worked for five years and three months can return to work in Israel again. They have also increased the delivery of construction workers on a state-by-state basis. South Korea has increased the employment of Thai workers in large shipyard-type businesses, and most recently, Italy has negotiated to include Thailand in the Italian Flows Decree so that Thai workers can be sent and coordinated to work in the agricultural sector.
