On April 19, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin welcomed the Israeli Ambassador to Thailand, Ms. Orna Sagiv, and the delegation on the occasion of meeting the Labour Minister to discuss the deployment of Thai workers to work in the agricultural sector in Israel. The meeting took place at the Chatumongkol Room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labour. Assistant Minister from the Prime Minister’s Office performing duties for the Ministry of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the occasion.
Mr. Suchart thanked the Israeli Ambassador to Thailand for taking good care of the Thai workers in Israel. The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayut Chan-o-cha, and the Ministry of Labour, under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, thanked the ambassador for supporting Thai people with jobs and careers. They have given importance to promoting Thai workers to travel to work abroad, to have a job, and bring in income into the country. The Ministry of Labour thanked the Israeli Government for implementing the labour agreement on the temporary employment of Thai workers in the agricultural sector in Israel under the “Thailand-Israel Cooperation on the Placement of Workers” or TIC project.
Mr. Suchart also discussed the issue of how to send Thai workers to work in Israel to improve the delivery process for more quality and efficiency to facilitate Thai workers. The Israeli government has increased the quota of workers from 5,000 to 6,800 people. In addition, both parties discussed ways for Thai workers to get Industrial Visas because Israeli employers accept skilled Thai welders over other nationalities and are in demand for many welders. This is a good opportunity for Thai workers to work in the industrial sector and the agricultural sector that has already been established.
Since 2012, the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Employment has sent 50,868 Thai workers to work in the Israeli agricultural sector. Most of the workers have traveled to work with employers in agriculture and livestock affairs. The initial employment period is two years, and the contract can be renewed for another three years and three months, for a total of not more than five years and three months. Workers will receive a minimum wage of 5,300 ILS. Upon completing the contract, the Thai workers would have gained agricultural experience from work to bring back to Thailand to develop the country and continue pursuing their careers.
