Labour Minister Emphasizes 8+1 Reformation Agenda

Today (9 January 2017) Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul visited Chiang Rai to follow up progress on operations within the 4 upper Northern provinces comprising Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae and Nan. Meeting participants included the ministry’s executives, leaders and provincial leaders, as well as representatives from the private sector including presidents from provincial Federation of Thai Industries, provincial Chamber of Commerce presidents and labour volunteers.

 

 

 
         The meeting particularly focused on operations in line with government policy, the 20-year strategy on labour development (2017-2036), progress from the 8+1 national reformation agendas and to gather information on current labour situations as well as stakeholder comments, to which the meeting found all offices to meet timeline targets. The Labour Minister presented policies to local offices to enhance workforce productivity towards a Thailand 4.0 and spoke about directions for the next 5 years.

         The Labour Minister said that an important policy was for the Ministry of Labour’s officers to be free of corruption and to stay away from involvement with human trafficking and illegal labour. He spoke about future changes in society, demography, technology and innovation, which would require consistent development in workers to meet evolving labour demands.  The Labour Minister spoke about the 4 phases of development comprising “Productive Manpower”, “Innovative Workforce”, “Creative Workforce” and “Brain Power”. The government officers were also reminded to uphold late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s sustainable economy philosophy, to implement in their everyday lives
