Today (6 September 2017) at the Labour Minister’s lounge, Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul gave an address to government officers scheduled to be stationed abroad. He said, “In working for labour offices abroad, I urge you all to be aware of the mission and responsibilities of the foreign offices which are 1) To protect Thai workers abroad ensuring overall welfare and compliance with employment agreements and local labour laws. Furthermore, taking a proactive approach in meeting the workforce and understanding existing problems 2) To promote, preserve and expand the Thai workforce. To date, international expansion of workforce has experienced high competition as many countries aim to export labour, therefore we must study in the information and have a solid network which will help us access data on true labour demand 3) To promote understanding and accurate disclosure of information about current affairs in Thailand including the government’s and Ministry of Labour’s important policies to the Thai workforce abroad and other stakeholders 4) To study, analyze and monitor the labour situation and economy in each country and how it will impact the Thai workforce. This includes data analysis to prepare problem resolution and report back to the ministry so that the executive committee can further consider policies and ensure that Thailand’s labour operations meet international standards. In addition to the 4 main duties above, working with the embassies and other government units as a ‘Team Thailand’ is important in making operations as smooth as possible. Another crucial point is caring for the Thai workforce, facilitating them and attending to any obstacles as quick as possible.”
The event included government officers who will be stationed at the Labour Office in Malaysia, the Labour Division at the embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, the Labour Office in Hong Kong and the Labour Office in Manila (second phase) in Kaohsiung.
