Labour Minister Establishes Standards for Assessors and Issues Certificates for Muay Thai Teachers at Assessment Centers Nationwide

Content Description

On September 5, 2024, the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, received the policy of the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, to chair the opening ceremony of the training for labour skill standards assessors in the Muay Thai trainer branch. Those who pass this training will be the people who will act as judges or evaluators for those who will become boxing teachers. Most of them are in the boxing industry. Some may be professional boxers, but due to their old age and experience, they have turned to being an assessor for people to become Muay Thai teachers. This training was held from September 5 to 7, 2024. The event was attended by the Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat District Chief, Mr. Jakkrit Fangchonlajit, the Nakhon Si Thammarat Director of the Skill Development Institute 22, Mr. Wira Oun-ok, and heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The occasion took place at the Puranakhon Hotel, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, and the Labour Skill Standards Assessment Center at S. Phumipat Boxing Camp, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Mr. Aree said that today’s training was organized to provide Muay Thai teachers or those interested in this career with standards to certify that they have the skills, knowledge, abilities, and behaviours to work as a Muay Thai teacher, as well as to be able to register as an assessor or an assessment committee member. Participating in the training of labour skill standard assessors ensures transparency and fairness, creating acceptance among stakeholders so that the national labour skill standards of Muay Thai trainers are accepted. Currently, the subcommittee for determining national labour skill standards has registered 15 people as national labour skill standard assessors in the Muay Thai trainer branch, Level 1. The Department of Skill Development has organized training for four more batches of labour skill standard assessors, with 119 people passing the training and qualifying to be labour skill standard assessors, totaling 134 people nationwide.

Mr. Aree continued that the trainees in this training will advance to the labour skill standard assessor or the score evaluation committee. They are essential people in the national labour skill standard assessment process in making decisions, selecting, or scoring the assessors for the Muay Thai training standard, Level 1, which must meet the standards. Therefore, this training is to develop the assessors to have knowledge, skills, and expertise in various steps, whether it is preparing the venue, materials, equipment, and tools for the labour skill standard test, the test control process, and the method of checking the results. Since the national labour skill standard has criteria or requirements for evaluating results according to the standards that must be considered in many steps, it is necessary to understand and go in the same direction. It also creates awareness for those who act as assessors to have ethics in working with speed, transparency, and fairness.
