The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, spoke about the tragedy at the Halloween Night Festival held in Itaewon Street in Seoul, South Korea, on the night of October 29. Many people attended the event, leaving at least 151 people killed and 82 injured from suffocation. As soon as he heard the news, the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha expressed their condolences and urged relevant agencies to expedite investigations.
Mr. Suchart continued that on the Ministry of Labour’s part, he instructed the Labour Ambassador to South Korea to expedite checks if any Thai workers had died in the incident. The report of Minister-Counselor on Labour at the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, Mr. Nithipat Wattanasuwakul, reported that no Thai workers have died. As for the deceased Thai person, the embassy is coordinating with South Korean authorities for details to inform the relatives of the deceased and to continue assisting in further arrangements.
