Labour Minister Instructs Monitoring of Establishments/Employees After the Phuket Floods Subside

The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, revealed that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, received a report that the flood in Phuket has now resolved to normal. Phuket has 13,420 establishments and approximately 166,536 insured employees. The Phuket Labour Office worked together with the provincial administration, local leaders, volunteers, and the public to support activities to help restore and help victims in flooded areas and take care of people at temporary shelters (worker camps) to alleviate the suffering of people in the area.

The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson said that the Labour Minister had instructed the Ministry of Labour’s agencies in Phuket to work together to expedite damage surveys at establishments and affected employers/employees, to inspect the safety in establishments after the water recedes, to help repair work equipment and tools and coordinate assistance with the restoration of damaged buildings and compensation funds with the province. The agencies were also instructed to consider the payment of social security compensation or funds if the conditions according to the insured persons’ eligibility are met, together with other benefits. In addition, the Labour Minister expressed his concern to the people of Phuket and asked that the people monitor the situation during this period and closely follow announcements from the government.
