Labour Minister Instructs Urgent Support for Laid-Off Korat Employees; Permanent Secretary Assigns Five Labour Leaders to Arrange a Petitions Desk at the Factory to Help Employees Receive Their Eligible Rights

On November 14, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, spoke about the support for laid-off employees in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. He said that Funai (Thailand) Co., Ltd., located at 835 Moo 18, Ban Sap Muang, Pak Chong – Lam Sam Phung Road, Tambon Chan Thuek, Amphoe Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, is an establishment that produces radio, television and electrical equipment parts and sends them to the parent company in Japan. The company announced its permanent closure on November 14, following the head office (Japan) having declared bankruptcy to the court in Japan, causing a total of 831 employees to be laid off. On the Ministry of Labour’s part, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, was assigned to instruct the agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, to go to the area together with the provincial agencies to support employees affected by the company’s closure, so that employees will receive benefits according to the law promptly.

The Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut said that he received a report from the Labour Officer of Nakhon Ratchasima Province yesterday (November 13, 2024), that agencies under the Ministry of Labour of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, along with the District Chief of Pak Chong, Superintendent of Pak Chong Police Station, Office of the Attorney General for the Protection of Rights and Legal Assistance and Enforcement of Nakhon Ratchasima Province (Pak Chong Branch), jointly visited the area to provide assistance and facilitate employees impacted by the company closing down. Support was offered in the area opposite the company. The agencies under the Ministry of Labour of Nakhon Ratchasima Province proceeded as follows: 1) Accepting employee petitions (Kor. 7), investigating the facts of employee, employer, and company representatives, considering the issuance of an order for labour inspectors to instruct the employer to pay wages in lieu of advance notice, compensation, and other payments in accordance with the Labour Protection Act. 2) Accepting registrations, reporting insured persons in the case of unemployment, and registering for jobs through the thaimeengantum system. 3) Explaining social security benefits in the case of unemployment and being laid off. 4) Creating a Google form to recruit for ten training courses and surveying employee training needs. 5) Preparing support in the area, preparing a place, drinking water, and food for employees.

Agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Nakhon Ratchasima Province have set up a LINE group to answer questions and allow employees to conveniently follow up on progress. Currently, 734 out of 831 employees have filed petitions. After this, the Ministry of Labour will issue an order for the employer to pay compensation according to the Labour Protection Act B.E. 2541 as soon as possible.
