Labour Minister Joins Deputy PM’s Delegation to Meet and Support Flood Victims in Narathiwat

          On March 2, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan and his delegation to Narathiwat for a visit and meeting to monitor the flood situation in the southern region. They also handed out relief bags to people affected by flooding at Narathiwat Provincial Hall. The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Orathep Intarasakul, and heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Narathiwat Province welcomed the delegation. The Labour Minister also met and encouraged labour volunteers and graduates of Narathiwat Province who came to welcome them. Labour volunteers and graduate workers have a mission to coordinate labour services in the area, providing people with jobs, skills, occupations, income, protection, and sustainable social security.

          Mr. Suchart said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha is concerned about the workers and the general public who have suffered from the flooding and urged each agency to mobilize assistance following its mission. Today, he visited the area with Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan’s delegation to monitor the situation in the area and to visit, encourage, and give relief bags to help workers and entrepreneurs and officials, and labour volunteers graduate workers and villagers in the affected areas.

          Mr. Suchart continued that today, he asked the departments under the Ministry of Labour in the area to prepare survival bags, consumer goods, and necessary items to support the provinces and distribute them to the people in need. In the southern border provinces, departments under the Ministry of Labour in Songkhla Province have been assigned to aid. As for the rehabilitation measures, after the water recedes, the Provincial Labour Office in the area will ask for a budget to set up urgent employment projects and develop skills to alleviate occupational hardships. The projects will help employ villagers affected by the disaster to earn an income. They will also survey the damage in the workplace and its impact on employees, including the impact on government officials, employees, labour volunteers, and graduate workers in the affected areas. The Department of Skill Development will organize a unit to repair electrical appliances, motorcycles, and small agricultural engines to reduce the cost for people whose equipment was damaged. Additionally, they will check the safety of the wiring in households. Provincial Labour Offices will coordinate with labour volunteers and graduate workers to visit the area, with close support and assistance from districts and provinces, until the situation returns to normal.
