Labour Minister Joins PM Delegation to Sakon Nakhon to Visit Informal Workers and Promote Careers to Drive the Community Economy

          On June 15, 2022, the Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined the delegation of the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha to attend the inspection of Sakon Nakhon Province. The visit was attended by Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics) Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, the Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian, the Department of Skills Development’s Director-General Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General Mr. Niyom Songkaew, and the Social Security Office’s Secretary-General Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the occasion. Sakon Nakhon Provincial Governor Mrs. Chureerat Thep-At gave a welcome. Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin led the Prime Minister visited the booths of agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Sakon Nakhon Province, consisting of the Ban Phak Kham Phu Bark Dyeing Weaving Group, the Kho Khieo Subdistrict Handicraft Group, activities to enhance the efficiency of dyeing by using indigo plants, and the Good Labour Project under the sufficiency economy philosophy. On this occasion, the Prime Minister met with groups of informal workers and encouraged the leaders of subdistrict labour volunteers and the labour network of Sakon Nakhon Province, who came to welcome them. Labour volunteers are key in linking the Ministry of Labour’s missions to the area. They are people who have sacrificed themselves for the public, working closely with people in the community in bringing the mission of coordinating labor services To provide people with jobs, skills, occupations, income, protection, and sustainable social security.
          From there, the Prime Minister and delegation met the relatives and daughter of Ms. Suparat Nganlasam, a Thai woman who had an accident falling from a building in Bella City, Oman, on May 27. The government, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and related agencies have coordinated assistance. On this day, relatives and daughters thanked the Prime Minister and his team for helping to transport the body back to Sakon Nakhon so that the family could make merit according to their wishes.
          Mr. Suchart continued that the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, have given importance to promoting occupations in the informal sector, including community enterprise groups. The efforts support employment at the local level to further develop them into SME entrepreneurs. This complies with the government’s policy focusing on informal workers because it is the largest part of the workforce in the country. They are an important force in driving the country’s economic development to be able to compete with other countries. Currently, the Labour Minister has proposed the Act to Promote the Development of a Quality of Life and Protection of Informal Workers B.E. …., which aims to take care of informal workers. The Cabinet approved the principle on December 28, 2021. It aims to improve the quality of life for informal workers to access basic occupational rights and social security protection and allow them to form a group to establish an organization.
