Labour Minister Joins PM Delegation to Visit Krabi and Informal Workers to Enhance Productivity and Occupations for the Andaman Tourism Sector

                       On November 15, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined Prime Minister, and Defense Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha’s delegation presided over the opening ceremony of natural attractions to welcome tourists to Krabi and meet tourism business operators, local leaders, and the people of Krabi. The occasion took place at the Hat Nopparat Thara National Park – Phi Phi Islands, Ao Nang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Krabi Province. Krabi Provincial Governor Mr. Puttipong Sirimat gave a welcoming. The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the occasion. Mr. Suchart said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, has the policy to open the country to welcome foreign tourists. Krabi is an important tourist city where tourists from all over the world visit each year, resulting in a large income inflow. At the same time, it promotes employment, especially in the tourism and service sectors. The Ministry of Labour’s Office of Skill Development and the Krabi Employment Office have developed skills and promoted occupations, promoting employment among informal workers, elderly, and vulnerable workers to have a career and a stable income.
                       On this occasion, the Labour Minister led the Prime Minister to visit the Ministry of Labour’s activity booths which brought products from groups that have been successful from the promotion of vocational training from the Ministry of Labour’s agencies in Krabi Province. The groups included the Ban Nai Nang Bee Farming Community Enterprise, formed by gathering members of the bee-keeping professions in rubber plantations, raised around their houses, for example. The Krabi Skill Development Office has carried out knowledge and skill development provided to members through workshops to increase productivity, reduce wastage and reduce the loss of productivity from the bees moving the group’s hives. It also promotes the use of defective materials and non-standard honeycomb columns to increase revenue by reducing honeycomb relocation by 10 percent, representing 63,000 Baht per year. The effort reduces labour losses and saves time by 50 percent through increased labour productivity. It generates income for the group, for at least 300,000 Baht per year. The Bagan Batik group also joined the event. The group’s members were trained in a profession that can be used as an additional occupation, with an income of 10,000 – 20,000 Baht per month. A group of elderly people formed the Five Suea Community Group with different knowledge, abilities, and wisdom in each occupation. The Krabi Employment Office has implemented a project to promote occupations for the elderly, expand employment opportunities and increase income. For such groups, there has been a training course for the development of the elderly’s potential to become speakers to pass on wisdom so that everyone can pass on their knowledge to other people or groups. It generates an average income for members at 25,000 Baht per month. The Khlong Thom Community Enterprise Group members who passed the training can grow into a career to increase income and be a lecturer in sharing knowledge to other groups with an average income of 5,000 – 10,000 Baht per month. Other occupational groups included healthy herbs, pastries, bakeries, herbal juice, the European food group, the women’s tailoring group, fabric painting, and embroidery.
