On June 6, 2022, the Labour Minister joined the Prime Minister and Minister of Defence General Prayuth Chan-ocha’s delegation on the Prime Minister’s visit to Phuket to deliver a participatory education management policy and witness the signing of the MOU on Cooperation for Sustainable Education Development. The delegation visited the exhibition on driving education to career skills and employment at the Phuttamongkol Nimit School, Yaowarat Road, Talat Yai Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket Province. Mr. Suthep Chitvong, Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General Mr. Niyom Songkaew, the Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives joined the welcoming. Phuket Provincial Governor Mr. Narong Wuxiu gave a welcome speech.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister met with informal worker groups and encouraged the leaders of subdistrict labour volunteers and labour networks of Phuket, who came to welcome the delegation. Labour volunteers are a link to the Ministry of Labour’s mission to the area. They are people who sacrifice themselves for the public, working closely with people in the community in coordinating labour services to provide people with jobs, skills, occupations, income, protection, and sustainable social security. From there, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, led the Prime Minister and the delegation to visit the service booths of agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Phuket Province. The booths included demonstrations of labour skills assessments for food and beverage service personnel at the level 1 capacity by the Phuket Institute of Skills Development 21. Booths also included education on benefits for insured persons under Section 40 and the network of houses, temples, schools, and factories, by the Phuket Social Security Office. There was also career guidance and demonstration of self-employment on making tea convulsions by the Phuket Provincial Employment Office. The Labour Minister also joined the Prime Minister’s delegation to the Beyond Resort Kata Hotel, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket Province, to join the opening ceremony of the Thailand Tourism Congress 2022, where the Prime Minister gave a keynote address on the strategy of raising Thai tourism to be sustainable and quality tourism.
Mr. Suchart said that the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha praised and encouraged the workers. The workforce is a key force in driving the economy forward. The government and the Ministry of Labour have given importance to developing skilled workers to be high-quality, ethical workers that are in demand by employers and businesses. It has collaborated with educational institutions from the vocational level to upgrade labour skills to vocational skills and promote employment for students, including people in the area, to have an income and social security. This will strengthen entrepreneurs’ confidence following the policy of opening the country to welcome tourists to Thailand. Phuket, especially, is a leading tourist destination where each year, it attracts many tourists from all over the world, drawing a large amount of income to support the country’s competitiveness.
