Labour Minister Kicks Off Urgent Hiring Project, Mobilizes Electricians to Repair over 100 Buildings to Create a Chiang Rai Model and Help Restore Areas After the Floods Recede to Enable Occupations

On November 6, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, chaired the opening ceremony of the kickoff activity for the electrical system repair services in houses and buildings affected by the flood in Chiang Rai Province. The initiative aims to help restore and relieve the suffering of the people affected by the floods. The Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour and Acting Director-General of the Department of Skill Development, Mr. Decha Phruekpattanarak, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour and Acting Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Lieutenant Saroj Komkhai, and executives from the Ministry of Labour attended the occasion. The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and Acting Deputy Governor of Chiang Rai Province, Mr. Chotinarin Ketsom, the Deputy Governor of Chiang Rai Province, Mr. Damrongsak Yotthongdee, leaders of local administrative organizations, volunteer electrical repair technicians in houses and buildings, and Mae Sai residents joined in welcoming them at Ban Ko Sai, Mae Sai Subdistrict, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province.

Mr. Phiphat said that the Ministry of Labour has a plan to restore and help flood victims in Chiang Rai Province. The initiative is divided into 3 phases: Phase 1 includes distributing relief bags to flood victims and visiting houses, businesses, and shops to learn about the suffering of the people and business owners. Phase 2 happens after the water recedes; an urgent employment project is being implemented to alleviate occupational distress and to mobilize people to help clean and clear mud so that people can return to their homes. At the same time, shops and businesses can operate, and people can work as usual. Phase 3, which starts today, includes a kickoff, where a team of technicians was dispatched to provide electrical repair services to over 100 households to help restore and alleviate the suffering of flood victims in order to create a Chiang Rai Model plan to help flood victims in other provinces.


The Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, said that in Chiang Rai Province, in addition to providing electrical system repair services to disaster victims, the Ministry of Labour has implemented a project to solve occupational issues, which includes an urgent employment activity for 400 disaster victims from October 9 to 13. The project gathered people to help clean up and clear mud within five days so that people could return to their homes. At the same time, it allows shops and businesses to operate and people to work as usual. Today, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, along with executives from the Ministry of Labour, paid a visit to inspect and follow up on the implementation of the project of hiring cleaning workers to restore the area for more than 100 households.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour and Acting Director-General of the Department of Skill Development, Mr. Decha Phruekpattanarak, added that the mobile unit providing electrical system repair services inside houses and buildings affected by the flood would run between November 5 and 6, 2024. Home Product Center Public Company Limited will support electrical equipment and materials. There is also cooperation from technician teams from various agencies in both the government and private sectors, and volunteers to provide assistance to people affected by the flood, totaling over 170 people. This includes the Samut Prakan SDI 1, the Nakhon Sawan SDI 8, the Phitsanulok SDI 9, the Lampan SDI 10, the Chiang Mai SDI 19, the Tak SDI 43, the SDI from Mae Hong Son, Phayao, Sukhothai, Nan, Phrae, Lamphun, Phichit, Kamphaeng Phet, Phetchabun, Amnat Charoen, the Human Resource Development Institute for the Health Service Industry, 29 volunteer technician teams, 13 technician teams from Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna and Chiang Rai, seven from Wiang Chiang Rung Vocational College, two electricians from Wiang Chai Subdistrict Municipality, Chiang Rai Province, and a team of 20 electricians from Home Product Center Public Company Limited.

In addition, there was a service to change the oil of 100 motorcycles, training courses on how to cook fast food and pineapple fried rice, a special recipe from the Department of Skill Development, which has specific seasonings and can be used further as a career. The flavour profile is standardized so that people can use the knowledge to pursue a career to earn income to support themselves and their families after the crisis.
