On December 23, 2024, at 09.30 hours, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, chaired the Artificial Intelligence Literacy for Government Officers public relations event and delivered a keynote speech on “Transforming the Ministry of Labour into the AI Era”. The project aims to lay a foundation of knowledge about AI, build skills in using AI tools, and promote the application of AI among the Ministry of Labour’s personnel. The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Siraphop Duangsodsri, Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Ms. Bunyawee Khaipan, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Santi Nantasuwan, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Nattawut Phattharayoon, Roi Et Provincial Employment Officer and Acting Academic Labour Advisor, and executives of the Ministry of Labour. Mr. Decha Phrukphatthanarak, the Director-General of the Department of Skill Development, reported on the objectives of the event, which took place at the Ministry of Labour’s Meeting Room on the 5th Floor, Ministry of Labour.
Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, revealed that today (December 23, 2024), the Ministry of Labour is facing challenges with rapid changes in digital technology that play a significant role in personnel operations. Therefore, it is necessary to develop personnel skills to have knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence (AI) technology; this is also in line with the Ministry of Labour’s policy to keep up with technology. The Department of Skill Development has organized this project to raise awareness of the changes in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in government work and to develop personnel skills to be able to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) technology in work to prepare for becoming a digital organization. This will enable personnel to facilitate and help workers and the public quickly and efficiently. For example, the Department of Employment will be able to find and match jobs more easily, the Department of Skill Development can create courses with more accuracy to the needs of business, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare can create more effective processes and complaints management, and it can enable insured persons to have better access to social security, and support the SSO in increasing safety efforts, to pinpoint risk areas or hazardous substances more accurately.
Mr. Decha Phrukphatthanarak, the Director-General of the Department of Skill Development, added that today’s event included a seminar on “AI Transformation in Action with the Vision of Government Organization Leaders” by a special speaker on digital transformation and a speech on “Magic of AI: Applying AI in Government Agencies” by Mr. Sunny Chawla, an IT Youtuber from the Sunnylogy channel. In addition, there were engaging digital exhibitions from private sector partners, including Business Online Public Company Limited, Proen Corp Public Company Limited, Bitkub Capital Group Holdings Company Limited (Bikub Academy), Digital Manpower Development Institute, Digital Development Foundation, Thai Software Industry Association, ICDL THAILAND, and the Thai Programmer Association. After this, the department also plans to organize a practical workshop on the development of personnel in artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance the efficiency of the Department of Skill Development, with a total of 4 classes covering 200 participants. The first class will be in January, the second in March, the third in May, and the fourth in June 2025. Those who complete the training will receive knowledge of AI, which can meet the needs of the public and manage government work more efficiently.
