Labour Minister Meets Ambassador in Abu Dhabi to Expand Market and Give Thanks for Caring for Thai Workers

Content Description

On December 8, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin and the delegation met to discuss official matters on labour with Mr. Warawut Phupinya, Ambassador of Thailand to Abu Dhabi. Assistant Minister from the Prime Minister’s Office performing duties for the Ministry of Labour Police Major General Nantachat Supamongkol, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong, Minister Counselor (on Labour) Mrs. Plida Ruamkham, together with the Ministry of Labour’s executives attended the occasion at the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Labour Minister Suchart said that the government, led by the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, assigned him to meet and discuss labour affairs with the Ambassador. On behalf of the Ministry of Labour, he thanked the Ambassador for taking care of the Counselor Minister and staff within the Labour Department, including Thai workers in the United Arab Emirates, ensuring that they live a quality life protected by the law. He also thanked the Ambassador for inviting him to chair the 45th Anniversary Celebrations of Thai-UAE relations on December 9 at 19.30 hours at the Thai Pavilion, which will be a great opportunity to promote labour cooperation and spread awareness about the skills and abilities of Thai workers. The effort will push for labour market expansions, creating jobs and careers for Thai people who will bring income back to Thailand.

Both parties discussed the possibility of Thai workers traveling to work in the United Arab Emirates. Thai workers are accepted by the United Arab Emirates, especially in service sector jobs such as in massages, spas, cooks, and Thai culinary. The UAE itself is a country that has a high demand for foreign workers in many sectors, especially in branches where Thai workers are accepted. Therefore, there should be a cooperation project and discussion on sending Thai workers to work in the UAE to determine labour import quotas, especially in the service sector where Thai workers have high abilities and potential. The effort will increase the proportion of Thai workers in the UAE labour market and help solve the problem of illegal workers as well. The parties also discussed the consideration of amending the MoU on sending Thai workers to work in the UAE, which is under negotiation between the Department of Employment and the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, including supporting the activities of the Royal Thai Embassy to develop Thailand according to the 20-year National Strategic Plan.
