On 12 January 2017 at 09.30 hours, Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul visited labour offices in the Northern region to follow up progress on operations. The provinces included Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Lampang and Lampoon. The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Labour’s executive members, leaders from affiliated units at the local level and members from the private sector including the president of the Federation of Thai Industries’ provincial chapters, president of provincial Chamber of Commerce offices and labour volunteers. The meeting was held to follow up progress in alignment with government policy as well as the Ministry of Labour’s own plans. This year, the Ministry of Labour has changed its role and expanded its missions to drive visits to all areas in order to create understanding and monitor resources. The visiting committee followed up progress on the 8+1 labour reformation agendas and alignment with the 20-year strategy on human resource development, as well as listened to obstacles and advice presented by meeting participants. The information gathered will contribute to policy design and smoother operations.
