Labour Minister Orders Investigation Into Chinese Advertising Sign Recruiting Foreign Workers And Stresses That Thai Laws Must Be Adhered To

Content Description

The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, spoke about the case of a Chinese advertisement recruiting foreign workers to work in Thailand on the side of Road 304, Rojana Industrial Estate, Prachin Buri Province. He said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, assigned the Department of Employment’s Director-General to urgently investigate the advertisement, whether it is coming from a Thai or foreign company, and whether it has been legally permitted to recruit foreigners to work. He also instructed them to investigate whether there are signs like this in other provinces, especially in areas with industrial estates. If it is illegal, legal action will be taken. It is an urgent matter that the Prime Minister, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, prioritizes. They will not allow anyone to use Thailand as a place to break the law.

The billboard advertising the purchase of passports for four nationalities at the Huai Khwang intersection initially reported that the person who hired the billboard was a Chinese woman, whom the police charged with being a foreign worker working illegally in the Kingdom. The Labour Minister has instructed the Department of Employment to provide useful information about this person and other relevant persons.

“Mr. Phiphat has a policy to catch, arrest, fine, and push back illegal migrant workers. Efforts have been in place with security agencies for four consecutive months since June. Most recently, the efforts have inspected 10,504 establishments that employ migrant workers nationwide and prosecuted 889 illegal workers. Soon, there will be an announcement to register migrant workers so that everyone can enter the legal process properly. This will make it easier for the government to manage, collect taxes, and take care of their quality of life according to universal humanitarian principles,” said Mr. Phumiphat.
