Labour Minister Pushes Economic Stimulus Measures in the Labour Sector Accelerating Job Creation, Reducing Costs, and Enhancing Skills

            The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has pushed for economic stimulus and relief measures for entrepreneurs and workers affected by rising production costs, increases in interest, technological changes, relocation of production bases and importing products from China. Through economic stimulus measures, the Ministry of Labour has hastened the creation of jobs in the country. It organized the Job Expo Thailand 2024, with over 110,000 people applying for jobs, matching employment through the “khontumngan” platform to support laid-off people who want to work as freelancers. Matching employment through the “thaimeengantum” platform, with over 177,000 job openings nationwide. It organized labour markets in every province and expanded the labour market in foreign countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Australia, New Zealand, and Portugal. It opened new markets in Italy to send workers to work in the agricultural sector. This year, the goal is to send 100,000 workers abroad, which is expected to bring in 385,617 million Baht in income back to the country.

            In terms of relief measures for entrepreneurs and workers, there is financial support and welfare, such as compensation for lost income in the case of unemployment, which provides 50 percent of the average wage for no more than 180 days per calendar year. It pays employee benefits in the event that the employer terminates the employment without paying wages, overtime, and severance pay, reducing expenses for insured persons who pay for housing in installments with the Government Housing Bank to be able to use the right to reduce interest on loans or refinance with other financial institutions. It supports low-interest loans to solve debt problems for insured persons, according to the Micro Finance project, reducing debt, replenishing capital, creating happiness for workers, and supporting investment in franchise businesses. In addition, it has established a specialized institute for intelligence, such as automated production and robotics, and automation technology and mechatronics to increase the competitiveness of workers and businesses in various industries, as well as provide tax relief to establishments that develop employee skills in the organization.

            “Mr. Phiphat wishes for the Ministry of Labour to play an important role in driving the country’s economy, as it cares for over 10 million workers, both in the formal and informal systems. The Ministry of Labour will work with the Ministry of Finance and related agencies to push these measures to success to help workers and entrepreneurs overcome various crises effectively and respond to the government’s policies to stimulate the economy,” Mr. Phumiphat said.
