Labour Minister Receives Consumer Goods from Private Sector to Support Workers Affected by Camp Closure Measures to Fight COVID-19

          On July 7, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin received consumer goods from the private sector to support workers following the measures to close worker camps in a fight against COVID-19. The meeting took place at the Chatumongkol Room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labour. The following donations were received: 1) Komos Corporation Co., Ltd. by Khun Sudjai Jirayapakorn, donated 18,000 packs of instant noodles. 2) JWD Group by Mr. Chitchai and Khun Atchara Nimitpanya donated consumer goods such as vegetable oil, fish sauce, chicken sauce, yellow stripe, baked bread, instant noodles, valued at 200,000 Baht. 3) Hatari Electric Co., Ltd. donated 15,000 kilograms of rice, valued at 300,000 Baht. 4) Saha Pathana InterHosting PCL, the Ruamjai Foundation of Saha Group 1997, donated instant noodles valued at 2,000,000 Baht. 5) Mr. Wichai Kulsompop, President of Saha Pathana Inter Holdings PCL, donated 200,250 packs of instant noodles. 6) Thantharat Chokwatana, Chairman of the Saha Group Foundation 1997, donated 200,500 packs of instant noodles. 7) Food Star Co., Ltd., by Mr. Chantra Pongsri, Managing Director of Food Star Co., Ltd., donated 2,400 bottles of drinking water, 1,056 bottles of fruit juice, 96 bottles of 40% fruit juice, 2,592 bottles of mixed yogurt drinks, 1,440 bottles of mixed yogurt and coconut jelly drinks, 50 boxes of seasoning powder, and 30 boxes of instant noodles. Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Aumpun Thuwawit, Director-General of the Department of Employment Mr. Phairoj Chotikasathian, and the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, also joined the occasion.

          Mr. Suchart said that that Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan are concerned for the workforce and those impacted by the CCSA’s measure to close construction worker’s camp. The measure aims to restrict the traveling and movement of workers in the dark red provinces such as Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, and Nakhon Pathom for one month, to control the spread of COVID-19 in worker camp clusters. The Ministry of Labour was assigned to take care of the workers affected by the measures by paying compensation for unemployment benefits at 50 percent of wages.

          “Today, the Ministry of Labour would like to thank the private sector for their cooperation with the government sector in supporting consumer goods. The Ministry of Labour will deliver this to the Thai Contractors Association Under H.M. The King’s Patronage. This will be used to help the workforce following the measures to close camps in various sites,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
