Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin cares for insured persons, establishing remedial measures in following government measures to heal and relieve employers’ troubles and insured persons in the social security system during the second wave of the Covid-19 outbreak and prepares to promote foreign workers to register online.
On January 4, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that the second wave of the Covid-19 outbreak is likely to continue to spread. The government has ordered the closure of many types of businesses, directly affecting the operations of temporarily closed businesses. The Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office has issued a “Ministerial Regulation on the rate of contributions to the Social Security Fund B.E. 2020”, resulting in a reduction of employer and employee contributions for insured persons under Section 33 to 3 percent. Insured persons under Section 39 will have contributions reduced to 278 Baht for three months (January to March 2021) to assist employers and insured who are still affected by the economic situation. The measure helps alleviate employers and insured persons’ cost, who can still make contributions at all social security offices. Employers and employees who are part of affected establishments can apply for unemployment benefits resulting from force majeure from Covid-19 via electronic systems, available from today onwards.
Mr. Suchart added that there are foreign workers who are working illegitimately and escaping from fear of guilt. Therefore, there should be inspection measures and Covid-19 screening among migrant workers to stop the infection spread. The Cabinet has considered the approval for the relief for migrants of the three nationalities (Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar) to stay in the Kingdom and work legally under a special case due to the new wave of the Covid-19 outbreak. The measures allow work permits to be obtained and create a non-Thai citizens profile online from January 15 to February 13, 2021.
