On May 9, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, presided over the opening ceremony of “May 10, National Occupational Safety Day”. The event included a ceremony to offer good wishes and take an oath of allegiance to honor His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 72nd Birthday. The Ministry of Labour’s executives, civil servants, officials, employers, employees, government officials, students, and the general public, totaling over 300 people, attended the event. They visited a demonstration on working at heights at the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare building (Taling Chan Intersection) in Bangkok.
Mr. Phiphat said that the Cabinet has designated May 10 of every year as the National Occupational Safety Day to encourage all sectors to take part in giving importance to workplace safety, to be aware of the dangers, and to understand workplace safety guidelines. The efforts are to promote health and safety operations to cover working people in every profession. The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, therefore, organizes the “National Occupational Safety Day” every year. 2024 is considered an auspicious year. The Ministry of Labour has joined with the Safety Network to organize safety activities to unite volunteer spirit to drive safety together in honour of His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 72nd birthday on July 28, 2024. The Ministry of Labour’s civil servants, workplace safety networks, and a network of volunteers participated, with over 300 people in attendance, showing their devotion and offering best wishes to His Majesty the King. They gave a pledge of allegiance to honor His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 72nd birthday to show loyalty and greatness and awaken the power to do good in honour of the King. In addition, the safety networks and volunteers will be an important force in driving workplace safety to be sustainable and jointly create a preventative safety culture in the workplace.
The Department of Labour Protection and Welare’s Director-General, Mrs. Sopa Kiatniracha, said that the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare has established and implemented policies on “Occupational Health and Safety of Thailand or Safety Thailand.” It expedites strict law enforcement and enhances awareness of safety precautions and the development of safety network partners, as well as learning from previous cases that have caused disability, the inability to work, and loss of property, both directly and indirectly. Today’s event aimed to stimulate all sectors to see the importance of workplace safety. It also aimed to create a network of employers and employees to apply occupational safety principles to their business establishments. The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare is committed to building a broader and stronger workplace safety network to promote safety in the workplace, having a public consciousness in creating a good society for the people and for employees to work safely, to reduce exposure to dangers arising from work for a sustainable quality of life.
